Geraldine Mary Maley Research Award
The Orthopaedic Biomedical
Imaging Institute at The University of Chicago has established
the Geraldine Mary Maley Research Award. This research award has
been established to promote Orthopaedic Research at the
University of Chicago. Candidates for the Award will include
Junior Faculty (Associate and Assistant Professors) and
Orthopaedic Residents at The University of Chicago
Hospitals.
The objective of this Award is to promote new areas of research
in the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of
Chicago. In particular, emphasis will be given to projects
that will generate pilot data allowing subsequent grant funding
from extramural sources in the future. There is no limitation to
the number of times a recipient may receive the award. However,
all awards are to be renewed yearly, and new projects will be
given priority. Section Administrator Sue Eaton will oversee
fund transfer to the appropriate account so that the recipient(s)
can use the fund and carry out the proposed studies.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit research proposals
that include introduction, significance, preliminary data if
applicable, brief methodology including statistical analysis,
and a preliminary budget. The main body of the application
(e.g., excluding cited literatures and regulatory compliances)
should NOT exceed FIVE pages. Also a brief location of the
research with the resources and environment for the project
should be specified. The applicant needs to include a standard
4-page NIH biosketch. The application deadline is October 15th
of each year.
Applications will be reviewed by the Maley Research Award
Selection Committee, which is currently composed of Drs. Rex C.
Haydon, T.-C. He, and John Martell. Depending upon the quality
and number of applications received, the review committee will
select one or two projects each year for a total of $20,000.
The Award(s) will be announced within the first week of
December. The funding starts January 1st and ends December 31st
of each year. The progress report is due within four weeks after
the funding ends.
If you have any questions regarding the application process,
please contact Darlene M. Urlaub at 2-7297.
