Dr. Rex Haydon is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the
Section of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at
the University of Chicago. He is also Associate Director of the
Molecular Oncology
Laboratory.
Dr. Haydon received a doctoral degree in anthropology and
medical degree from the University of Chicago. He continued at
the University of Chicago for residency training in orthopaedic
surgery, as well as a two year fellowship in musculoskeletal
oncology/orthopaedic research.
As part of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Group at the University
of Chicago, Dr. Haydon focuses on the comprehensive treatment of
malignant and benign tumors involving either bone or soft
tissues. This highly integrated team of specialists ensures that
patients have access to the most innovative and effective
treatment modalities available. Dr. Haydon specializes in the
surgical care of bone and soft tissue tumors, including
limb-salvage and reconstructive surgery of the upper and lower
extremities.
Dr. Haydon also conducts research into the underlying causes of
musculoskeletal neoplasms. He has published over 25 articles and
book chapters and has recently received Career Development
Awards from both the Orthopaedic Research and Education
Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. His
research has also been supported by the Musculoskeletal
Transplant Foundation. His interest in research is premised on
the hope that advances in the laboratory will eventually lead to
breakthroughs in patient care. As such, he is dedicated to
developing novel and innovative treatments for patients with
musculoskeletal tumors.
