Dr. Martell is a
graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of
Medicine and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at
The University of Chicago in 1987. His fellowship training in
adult hip and knee reconstruction with Dr. Jorge Galante at Rush
Presbyterian St. Luke’s was completed in 1988. He is
board-certified in orthopaedic surgery since 1991 with
recertification in 2001.
Dr. Martell is a member
of the Orthopaedic Research Society, the American Academy
of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee
Surgeons, the Academic Orthopaedic Association, and the Hip
Society. His research interests include polyethylene wear in
total hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as determination of
bone strength using new radiographic techniques. He was the
recipient of the Charnley Award for the Hip Society in 2002 for
his contribution to the manuscript, “Wear Is a Function of Use,
Not Time".
