Dr. Daniel P. Mass, M.D., Professor
of Surgery is Vice-Chair of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery
and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Chicago and
Program Director of the Orthopaedic Hand and Upper Extremity
Fellowship.
Dr. Mass received his medical degree from the University of
Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his surgery
internship at the University of North Carolina Hospital and his
residency at the University of Chicago Section of Orthopaedic
Surgery. After a fellowship in Hand Surgery in San Francisco and
Hand Trauma Fellowship in Switzerland, he returned to the
University of Chicago as an Attending Surgeon.
Dr. Mass’ clinical interests and expertise is in Orthopaedic
Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery providing the highest quality
and cutting edge care to patients with arthritis of the
shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand as well as patients with
rotator cuff tears, shoulder instabilities, elbow problems,
nerve problems, and tendon and muscular problems.
Dr. Mass has published over fifty papers in problems of the hand
with an emphasis on tendon repairs and biomechanics of the hand.
He does basic science research on tendon healing and repairs. He
is past president of the Chicago Society for Surgery of the
Hand.
