Section Chief Michael Simon,
MD has assumed the Presidency of the American
Orthopaedic Association. Dr. Simon also completed his
ten-year term on the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Faculty member Terrance
Peabody, MD has been appointed as the Program Director
for our Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program, and the Director of The University of Chicago Orthopaedic Oncology
Fellowship Program.

Faculty member Daniel Mass, MD
has been appointed to the Research Council of the American
Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). Dr. Mass is also
the Chair of the Volunteer Service Committee of the American
Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).

Faculty member Brian Toolan,
MD was a recipient of the prestigious Japanese
Orthopaedic Association Traveling Fellowship sponsored by
American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).

Faculty member John Martell,
MD was selected to participate in the AAOS-NIH Implant
Wear Consensus Conference. Dr. Martell is a recipient as a
Co-Investigator of an NIH R01 grant entitled
“Computerized radiographic analysis of bone structure”. In
addition, his polyethylene wear analysis software has
been used across the United States and overseas.

Faculty members Brian Toolan,
MD and Louis Draganich, PhD were co-recipients of the
Leonard Goldner Award from the American Orthopaedic Foot
and Ankle Society (AOFAS). Dr. Toolan was also elected a member
at large for the Young Physician Section of the AOFAS.

The Finn Knee™, developed
by faculty member Henry Finn, MD, was cited as one of the
most significant advances, events, or accomplishments in the
last decade by Orthopaedics Today.

Faculty member Dr. Bruce
Reider’s book entitled “The Orthopaedic Physical
Examination” has been translated into Italian and
Portuguese. Dr. Reider also continues to serve on the Program
Committee of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine
(AOSSM).

Faculty member Purnedu Gupta,
MD was a co-author and finalist for the Spine Volvo Award
for “Spine loading and kinematic changes in low back disorder
patients compared to asymptomatic individuals”.

Faculty member T.-C. He, MD,
PhD received a total of $300,000 research funding from three
granting agencies: The Cancer Research Foundation, The
Schweppe Foundation, and the Orthopaedic Research and
Education Foundation (OREF).
