Dr. Michael A. Simon, M.D., Professor of
Surgery, is currently the Vice Chair for Education of Department
of Surgery, and
the Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Simon
served as the Chief of the Section of Orthopaedic Surgery and
Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Chicago for almost
two decades.
Dr. Simon received his medical degree from
the University of Michigan. He also completed his orthopaedic
surgery residency and internship at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Simon completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at
the University of Florida under Dr. William Enneking.
Dr. Simon’s clinical interest and
expertise is in the field of orthopaedic oncology. He provides
the highest quality of care to patients with bone and soft
tissue tumors. Dr. Simon is part of a multidisciplinary group of
surgeons at the University of Chicago, which include adult and
pediatric oncologists, diagnostic and therapeutic radiologists,
radiation oncologists, and pathologists who, through patient
care and research, offer comprehensive care for patients with
benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.
Dr. Simon has published over 100
publications on bone and soft tissue tumors. He has lectured
extensively at professional meetings both nationally and
internationally. He is the recipient of many honors and awards
and is considered an expert in his field. He is a Past President
of the Academic Orthopaedic Society, the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Orthopaedic Association, the
Orthopaedic Residency Review Committee of the Accreditation
Council of Graduate Medical Education and the Musculoskeletal
Tumor Society. He is currently on the Board of Trustees for the
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
